His Scales Like Lightning

about

Pretty sure this is the third track we started, the first version of which was referred to simply as "Snakes" in early 2009. We had no idea where to go with this one, and by chance while watching Inhumanoids realized Chris Latta's voice sounded snake-like, so we decided to sample and alter pieces of it. That was the bulk of the samples originally, but then as we got more into the snake thing we diverged from those and only retained a few of them as time went on. Still looking for a theme, the one day Addison said let's call it "Snakeh Diddly" and for some reason that sounded like a cowboy name to me, so we decided to roll with it. So yes, this is about a ruthless snake cowboy. As dumb as that sounds it has our favorite drum line, the main groove for the bass lick you hear throughout several sections. Simple, and cuts right to the quick. When we got more serious it went through a name change to become "Scales in the Dust," until we realized it made no sense, so we settled on the current title in 2016.
